Blue Eyed Kayla Jade is the charismatic TikTok star taking women’s personal care and lifestyle trends by storm, having amassed 1.9 million followers in a matter of months. Women globally are obsessed with her good looks and luxury lifestyle, her work as an OnlyFans model and, as she puts it, a full service sex worker. Discussing client sexual escapades in a PG manner, blending it with feminine hygiene advice and skincare, her branding seems like your big sister sex worker. Whilst this might seem like a positive thing for all those in her profession, I argue that there have always been sex workers who have been regarded as publicly acceptable, who work from a place of exclusive privilege - think the Playboy Bunnies. How Kayla Jade presents all of this seems fun and harmless, yet some of the scenarios she discusses are scary for herself and other women. Because of her fame and uniquely privileged position Blue Eyed Kayla Jade has become an influencer, who is also employed as a sex worker.

Any fans of Blue Eyed Kayla Jade would recognise the name Peggy Sue, a code name for a regular client who enjoys being pegged with increasingly large and bizarre objects. Whether an amalgamation of sex worker war stories, or a fabricated character, Peggy Sue has been one of Kayla Jade’s most attention grabbing conversation topics. What better way to go viral and start conversations than with taboo tales of a person who will likely never be revealed.

Inappropriate boundaries

Many of her clients are reportedly high profile men, one recent story discussed a CEO who had an unprofessional crush on his assistant. He booked Kayla Jade for her striking resemblance to his assistant. Despite the clear issues with this scenario, she downplayed it by stating that if she thought the woman was in any real danger that she would slip a note into the woman’s desk at the office, or make contact through social media. As well-meaning as this seems, contacting the woman has the potential to cause more harm and problems than help. 

Consider the psychological impact

Consider the psychological impact of being contacted by a sex worker who was hired by your boss because of an uncanny likeness. This  secretary has become unwittingly involved in fantasy play, where she has no option to consent, it was never an option because of the  power imbalance. Not An Overnight Success

Amongst an already small population, she represents the tiniest fraction of the industry, and it is a platform not acknowledged enough. These topics would not garner her as much attention as Peggy Sue and teaching female clients to squirt. The more salacious and relatable topics are great topics for her to segue into another career, if she chooses.

Whilst being open and relatable about her pimples, and desire to pick them, Blue Eyed Kayla Jade also provides advice about using Boric Acid tablets for vulva/vaginal health. Adult Bliss DOES NOT advise this. Before doing anything to your body, please consult your doctor, the person who studied the human body for at least 10 years. A study published in 2009 suggested that there may be clinical use for Boric Acid alongside antibiotics to treat Bacterial Vaginosis. Sadly, like many women’s health issues, this needs further investigation. Every person’s body is different, and whilst sex workers may have tips and tricks that help them continue earning money, this advice may not be safe or reasonable for the wider public. Your body, your choice, just maybe seek professional advice before making some potentially irreversible decisions using online advice.

Misrepresenting The Industry

My criticism is that she uses careless marketing around sex workers, using a platform known for its consistent use of blatant deception to sell products and services.

People are easily influenced, and she is an influencer more than a sex worker, she doesn’t need the online fame to secure lucrative bookings, she needs the online fame to transition into another career. By using her experience and platform in this way, she is grossly misrepresenting the average experience of sex workers, whilst at the same time, parodying client’s kinks and encouraging her fans to do the same. Her blasé attitude about easily making huge money with little effort is a far cry from the planning and effort that many content creators go through, as Rem has discussed in Online Sex Work: The Easy Money Myth.

It’s a double edged sword, because on one hand Blue Eyed Kayla Jade, and all sex workers, should be paid well for the services they provide. They should also be free to transition easily into other careers, if and when they choose. On the other hand, sex work is dangerous and stigmatised, it shouldn’t be, but it is. It is estimated that 99% of Australian sex workers have experienced trauma due to their work, these statistics are hard to confirm since many go unreported. Kayla Jade potentially puts other workers at risk by making a spectacle of her client stories. Many acts of violence in history have been perpetrated against people to represent the death or pain of another. Sex workers are already some of Australia’s most targeted women in our country, why make it worse for them? Blue Eyed Kayla Jade is not responsible for the actions of others, she is responsible for whitewashing a historically exploitative industry that has made her so wealthy.
