It's Anal August!!
Anal August!
So it’s Anal August! And aside from our annual huge sale on anal toys, we also like to shed light on some important issues surrounding our back door pleasure zone! Starting with prostate cancer!
According to the Cancer Council 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer with most diagnoses occurring over the age of 65. It’s a horrible disease that is painful to cure and can leave lasting damage to the urethra and pelvic floor area.
Symptoms can include.
- frequent urination
- pain while urinating
- blood in the urine or semen
- a weak stream
- pain in the back or pelvis
- weak legs or feet
But these symptoms show mostly in the advanced stages, early-stage prostate cancer is hard to detect so it’s important to see your GP regularly. Especially if you have a family history of either prostate cancer, breast or ovarian cancer!
Prostate Cancer Screening is exceedingly difficult, although the most common test used for early detection is the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test! That’s right! No finger in the bum it’s just a blood test! So fellas if you’re in your mid to late 40’s, it’s worth getting it done just for peace of mind!
The next thing we like to talk about during Anal August is… Well, anal sex!
Firstly, how damn good it is and the current trends surrounding the unnecessarily taboo topic! We feel like it’s important to start with the phrase “Anal Sex is for everyone, unless it’s not for you”.
It’s important to keep in mind that almost everyone with a bum can enjoy anal sex, you don’t have to be a woman, or a gay man to like anal sex,
in fact, the prostate is a banger of a pleasure center and when you hit that switch you’ll wonder why you haven’t been doing this your whole sexual career! But for some people it’s just not what they are into, and that’s ok too!
Harm reduction is an important topic when it comes to anal sex,
so many people are turned off from their first experience due to the pain they experience! Well, let us tell you, if it hurts you’re doing it wrong! Anal sex should never hurt, there may be a small amount of discomfort at first but if done carefully and gently the first time should feel just as good as the third or fifth time.
We recommend using an anal specific lubricant like the PJUR Analyse Me, (water-based if you’re using toys or condoms and silicone for skin on skin anal sex).
The PJUR Analyse Me products have a muscle relaxant in them that doesn’t numb but relaxes the area, we never ever ever recommend numbing products for anal sex! Pain is the bodies way of telling you that you need to stop doing something because it’s not good for you, like when you stub your toe or touch the clothes iron.
Ok, so you got your lube now what?
Anal training kits are usually the next step but for some people, a finger is a great place to start as well! Play with the outside of the sphincter, it’s full of feel-good nerve endings and stimulating the outer part can help you get used to the idea of actually inserting something.
Lastly, we need to talk about consent!
Remember, just because someone has given you consent to have sex with them doesn’t mean you have consent to have anal sex with them!
